Yesterday I got the communication from the Microsoft MVP Program that I got nominated for the third year as Microsoft MVP for Windows Live. I’m very happy and very proud to receive this title for the third year and that my work with the Windows Live Writer and the Microsoft Communities can proceed with the great opportunities the Microsoft MVP program give us.

Windows Live Writer Wish List #2

We created a new wish list were you can submit your ideas for new WLW functions. The major difference is that other community members can vote the ideas. We think it would be a great help for the Windows Live Writer team to develop new functions which are really helpful.

Please submit every idea or wish you have and don’t forget to vote.

You will find the wish list on the left side on live-writer.net

This will be an one platform for both community, live-writer.net and live-writer.de. Please submit your Feedback in English. The Windows Live Writer Team and the community will have less problems to vote your idea.

WordPress 2.6 doesn’t support Live Writer out of the box

The WordPress developer team tries to secure WordPress. Hence, they deactivated the XML-RPC and the Atom API.

Without these APIs it is not possible to post to your blog using a desktop blogging software like WIndows Live Wiriter.

Thankfully they didn’t delete this API. It can be activated in WordPress Administration (Settings –> Write).

New Live Writer Blog

After a long time of inactivity, we relaunched the english Live Writer Blog.

The new Live Writer Blog is based on WordPress instead of dasBlog. Along with this new base there are numerous of new features. You can rate the plugins we write about also the author of a post about a plugin can rate the plugin. With this, it’s easier for visitors to decide which plugins they want to install and which not.

The Design is now the same as on our german blog (corporate identity ).

WordPress 2.3.1 supports Live Writer Tagging-System

The topical version 2.3.1 of WordPress support the tagging-system of Live Writer.

We’ll show in the following how the tagging-system works with WordPress

After you have written an article open the footer-menu (“Categories” etc)
You can type in your tags below the headline “Keywords”
A View into the control panel of WordPress will show you that WordPress accept the keywords you have typed in into the Live Writer menu

WordPress: Non-ASCII characters render incorrectly on UTF-8 encoded blogs

Description: On WordPress 2.1+ and PHP versions older than 5.0.2, publishing posts using Writer results in non-ASCII characters showing up as either squares or question marks.

Reason and Solution: Writer erroneously prepends the UTF-8 Byte Order Mark to XML-RPC requests that are UTF-8 encoded. This prevents WordPress from correctly detecting the UTF-8 encoding declaration, so ISO-8859-1 is assumed instead.

Run regedit.exe and find the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Windows Live Writer\Weblogs\

Verify that the subkey ManifestOptions contains a characterSet=”UTF-8″ value. If so, under the subkey UserOptionOverrides, add a new String Value named characterSet and leave its value empty.
